Unite!Widening

Raise excellence in R&S&I in HEI for widening countries

The Unite!Widening project, supported by the European Universities Initiatives, aims to complement the efforts of higher education institutions across the EU. Launched in 2019, this international coalition promotes European values and identity while enhancing science and knowledge sharing. By fostering collaboration between universities from both Widening and non-Widening countries, the initiative strives to improve the quality, inclusiveness, and competitiveness of higher education across Europe. Through Horizon Europe, the European Commission seeks to address disparities in research and innovation by expanding funding opportunities, thereby empowering growth and innovation in countries like Poland and Portugal.

Goals:

• Reduce differences and reinforce the R&I capacity of the Widening countries,
• Strengthening Unite! as an alliance,
• Enhancing the scientific, technological and innovation capacity of the consortium of HEIs (Higher Education Institutions),
• Raising the excellence profile of the Widening countries: Poland and Portugal,
• Implementing the ERA/Widening policies,
• Promoting the implementation of Gender Equality Plans covering a wide range of thematic areas, such as recruitment, career, work-life balance, leadership, gender in research and education practice, and gender-related harassment and assault.
