Artificial intelligence is no longer a curiosity—it is now tangibly transforming the way we live and work. Increasingly, the question is not whether to use AI, but how to do so wisely, responsibly, and effectively. This challenge is addressed by the project “AI Tools in Education and Research”, funded by the Unite! Seed Fund.
Generative artificial intelligence models are having an ever-greater impact on everyday academic work. Nevertheless, many study programmes still do not demonstrate how AI can be practically used for developing teaching materials, designing courses, analysing data, or supporting research processes. The project aims to fill this gap by focusing on the development of concrete competencies, creativity, critical thinking, open science, and collaboration across disciplines—explains Dr Eng. Bogumiła Hnatkowska, project leader from Wrocław Tech.
As part of the project, two modules will be developed: the first, fully online, devoted to the application of AI in education, and the second, delivered in a hybrid format, focusing on the possibilities of using AI in scientific research.
Project participants will gain practical skills enabling them to apply artificial intelligence at every stage of academic work. As a result, anyone—regardless of discipline—will be able to introduce AI into their daily practice and experiment with new tools in a practical context.
In the first stage, curricula for the planned modules will be developed—from the precise definition of learning objectives, through recommendations for the selection of AI tools, to the establishment of methods for evaluating learning outcomes. In the following months, educational materials will be created, including online content, recordings, and workshop scenarios. In autumn 2026, the courses will be piloted among academic teachers and students, and subsequently refined based on their experiences and feedback.
The project is coordinated by Wrocław Tech and implemented in cooperation with four partner universities of the Unite! alliance: UPC, Aalto University, Politecnico di Torino, and the Universidade de Lisboa.
