Unite! Widening Staff Week at Politecnico di Torino

Politecnico di Torino (Italy) is inviting administrative staff from Wrocław Tech to take part in the Unite! Widening Staff Week, taking place on 24–28 November 2025.

This unique event is an opportunity to:

  • explore tools and solutions used in the management of research and innovation projects,

  • visit the PoliTO campus and laboratories,

  • take part in engaging social and networking activities outside the university.

Participants will receive reimbursement for travel, subsistence, and accommodation expenses, in line with internal business travel regulations of the university.

The event is organized as part of the Unite!WIDENING project, funded by the Horizon Europe programme. Its goal is to strengthen the capacity of institutions from Widening countries (such as Poland and Portugal) as centres of excellence in open science and innovation through knowledge sharing, training, and collaboration.

What is Unite! Networking Hub?

Networking Hub is a brand-new virtual meeting space designed for academic and administrative staff from Unite!’s partner universities. It’s more than just a networking event – it’s a collaborative hub where colleagues come together to:

  • Connect and engage with peers facing similar challenges,
  • Share best practices and tools,
  • Exchange experiences and ideas,
  • And foster a strong, cross-institutional community spirit.

Whether you’re looking to solve a problem, showcase an initiative, or just talk about your day-to-day work with someone who understands, Networking Hub is for you.

Who is it for?

This initiative is open to all academic and administrative staff across Unite!’s 9 partner universities. Whether you work in teaching, research, student services, mobility, communication, IT, HR, management or any other field — everyone is welcome.

How does it work?

  • 9 sessions per year, one per month (excluding the summer break)
  • Held on the third Tuesday of each month at 13:00 CET
  • The first Networking Hub will take place on 21 October 2025
  • Each session lasts approximately one hour
  • Hosted on a virtual platform

Each session is hosted by a peer, making it a relaxed and informal space for professional discussion.

Let’s Unite! Come and explore the Unite! alliance opportunities

Research internships, joint research projects, online seminars, additional scholarships – these are just some of the opportunities offered by the Unite! alliance for students, PhD candidates, and staff of Wrocław University of Science and Technology. We’ll present the details on April 15 at the Student Culture Zone during the Let’s Unite! fair.

Unite! is an alliance of nine European technical universities, established to create a modern model of university education. Alongside Wrocław Tech, the alliance includes: Universidade de Lisboa (Portugal), Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (Spain), Politecnico di Torino (Italy), University Grenoble Alpes (France), Graz University of Technology (Austria), Technical University of Darmstadt (Germany), KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden), and Aalto University (Finland).

Being part of the consortium, as explained by Prof. Renata Krzyżyńska, Vice-Rector for External Relations, is a great opportunity for the entire Wrocław Tech community. – Innovation arises where resources meet. And our alliance has a great deal of resources – 280,000 students and tens of thousands of researchers and administrative staff. Add to that infrastructure worth billions, including research facilities, enabling the development of new technologies. It opens up completely new perspectives for us – says Prof. Krzyżyńska.

The scope of Unite! initiatives is constantly expanding, which is why we’re organizing this event. – We want every student and staff member to know where to find the offer catalogues and how to make the most of them. During Let’s Unite!, attendees will have a chance to meet people directly involved in the alliance who will explain the available programs for each group – students, PhD candidates, researchers, and administrative staff – explains Anna Hejno, Director of the Center for International Relations. The program also includes short talks highlighting the idea behind the alliance and its development prospects.

Open science trainings for spring 2025

Aalto University organises a free webinar training series on research data management and open science and invites researchers, students and service staff from Unite! to participate.

Webinars are organised by Aalto University Data Agents, a group of research-oriented Aalto employees who support researchers and students in questions related to research data management. The series includes topics such as Generative AI and copyright, Prompt engineering for research and Artificial Intelligence and responsible research. Unite! aims to be a European driver of open science and innovation. Our objective is to enhance open science competencies in the partner universities and wider in the society.

In our Unite! Horizon2020 project we have been exploring the best practices and current gaps in the open science initiatives of the Unite! member universities. Learning from each other is the essence of open science. Come meet Aalto’s researcher experts and join the discussion!

Staff Week w TU Graz

Seize the opportunity to share experiences and exchange ideas with colleagues from your own field of expertise while meeting international colleagues and diving into the Austrian culture.

Exploring Open Educational Resources: Unite! course offerings 

Unlock the world of Open Educational Resources (OER) with Unite!’s latest course offerings! Dive into the realm of OER, where educational materials are openly accessible, editable, and shareable. Discover how to utilize OER ethically and effectively, and earn badges and credits for your accomplishments! 

 

OER are not only an important educational policy issue for international associations such as UNESCO, OER are also part of the call for “Open Science”. The background to these OER-Course offerings is the successful joint Unite! Seed fund project “Unite! OER courses” of all nine partner universities. Familiarise yourself with the background and potential of Open Educational Resources (OER), and understand how to use materials with open licences in a copyright-compliant manner.

Contents of the MOOC will be explored in depth in the course “Open Educational Resources” by TU Graz. This English lecture is open to all Unite! members via the Unite! Metacampus.  

This course expands on the MOOC content and offers more insights and practical training on finding, publishing, and understanding OER.

Sustainability in Teaching Pedagogical Course Open for Unite! Faculty

If you are interested in embedding sustainability themes into your teaching, and discussing the topic with like-minded colleagues, this course is designed for you.

Sustainability in Teaching equips you with theoretical knowledge of sustainability education and practical examples to help you discover your unique way of embedding sustainability in your teaching. 

In this course, Uniters can discuss sustainability education from multiple perspectives- including the concept of sustainability and the SDGs. You will explore the role of different disciplines in promoting sustainability, key sustainability competencies, and how to design teaching and learning activities. Throughout the sessions, you will also reflect on values and emotions in sustainability education.

Upon completion of the course, you will be able to:

  • relate sustainability/sustainable development and sustainable development goals (SDGs) to your own subject field 
  • identify and apply different approaches to integrate sustainability into teaching at a course or programme level   
  • reflect on how sustainability key competencies can be utilised to develop teaching and curriculum in your disciplinary context 
  • design and apply learning objectives, and teaching and learning activities to integrate sustainability in your disciplinary context  
  • consider the role of values and emotions in your sustainability-related teaching.
     

Sustainability in Teaching includes interactive individual and group assignments during the teaching sessions and individual pre- and post-assignments either side of each teaching session. Teaching and study methods include dialogic teaching, peer discussions, reflection tasks, group exercises and working in a virtual learning environment.

Who can apply?: The quota for participants from Unite! partner universities is 10. If the number of applicants exceeds this quota, individuals on tenure and lecturer tracks will receive priority. All applicants will be informed about acceptance via email approximately three weeks before the course begins.
Prior Knowledge: Participants are expected to have basic knowledge of sustainability (concept, sustainability dimensions) and the UN sustainable development goals (SDGs). Accepted participants will be provided material for independent study if they feel a deeper orientation with the theme is necessary. Prior knowledge is not a prerequisite for acceptance to the course.

Unite! Seed Fund 2025. Call for Applications

The deadline for all submissions is March 20, 2025, with various matchmaking events scheduled to help participants find partners for their projects

The Unite! Alliance is pleased to announce the opening of the call for the Unite! Seed Fund 2025, a fund designed to support innovative and collaborative projects among the alliance’s member universities. This fund offers financial support to students, researchers, and professors who wish to initiate joint initiatives between at least three Unite! universities (and at least two for student proposals), encouraging collaboration and excellence in education, research, and innovation.

Research&PhD and Teaching&Learning proposals must address on the Unite! Focus Areas: Sustainable Energy; Artificial Intelligence; Industry 4.0; Entrepreneurship; Engineering Biology (and Biotechnology); Space; Cybersecurity; and Sustainable Cities & Water.

Proposals will be evaluated based on their overall quality, sustainability and long-term perspectives, and potential impact.

 

The 2025 Seed Fund call includes three categories:

Student Activities Call

Deadline: The deadline for contacting Unite! Student Liaison Officer in each university is 6 March 2025.
The deadline for presenting the proposals is March 20, 2025.

Available budget: Up to €20,000 per project, with a total of €100,000 available to fund proposals involving at least two Unite! universities.

Objective: Funding for collaborative projects that bring value to the student community, such as exhibitions, events, competitions, hackathons, or extracurricular activities in any format (in-person, hybrid, or digital).

Virtual matchmaking event: February 11, 2025, 14:00 – 16:00 CET.

 

Teaching and Learning Call

Deadline: March 20, 2025

Available budget: Up to €80,000 per project, depending on the number of participating universities, with a total of €230,000.

Objective: To promote the creation of joint teaching programs, especially at the master’s level, focused on Unite!’s focus areas areas.

Virtual matchmaking event: February 12, 2025, 14:00 – 16:00 CET.

 

Research and PhD Call

Deadline: March 20, 2025

Available budget: Up to €80,000, depending on the number of participating universities, with a total of €350,000.

Objective: To foster collaborative research in strategic areas such as Energy, Biotechnology, Cybersecurity, and more, with projects involving at least three Unite! universities.

Virtual matchmaking event: February 14, 2025, 13:00 – 15:00 CET.
