The new president of SURE!, the student representation body within the Unite! alliance, is Marcel Sobecki, a student of Wrocław University of Science and Technology. In the coming months, he plans to focus primarily on strengthening communication with students and building a stronger student representation within the network.
– The main challenges are to continuously increase the visibility of Unite! among students, develop local groups, and create a space where every voice can be heard – says Marcel Sobecki. – We want to launch regular projects created by students, for students, and strengthen our collaboration with Unite! Communities.
The new president will also represent Unite! students before the alliance’s governing bodies — including participation, with voting rights, in Steering Committee meetings — as well as internationally, in initiatives such as FOREU4ALL, EUC Voices, and the European Students’ Union (ESU).
Marcel’s appointment coincides with structural changes within SURE! — for the first time in the organization’s history, the presidential elections were held in a fully democratic manner.
Alongside Marcel Sobecki, the new SURE! leadership team includes: Matilde Godinho from ULisboa (Vice-Chair), Pau Morente from UPC (Secretary), and Laura Armando from PoliTo (Treasurer).
– We’ve built a team in which everyone has clearly defined responsibilities — and there’s definitely no shortage of work ahead. – I feel great in this new role. I know it’s a challenge — I had to organize a few things beforehand — but having been involved in student activities for so long, gaining real experience both within the WUST Student Government and other organizations, I see this as a natural next step in my development. I believe it will be mutually beneficial for all of us – says Sobecki.
