Diversity and collaboration are the foundation of the Unite! community, but the daily work within structured work packages often leads its members to remain in silos. To unlock the full potential of Unite! as a true community, it is essential to support peer-to-peer relationships beyond the boundaries of work packages.
With this goal in mind, the Community 6.4 expert team has undertaken a mission to identify the needs and expectations of all individuals involved in Unite! regarding social activities that will increase motivation, strengthen a sense of belonging, and foster a sense of community.
Two employee clubs, the Unite! Hiking & Walking Club and the Unite! Cooking Club, were launched during last year’s Unite! Dialogue conference at Wrocław University of Science and Technology.
The Unite! Hiking & Walking Club is currently engaged in a challenge to collectively cover 609 kilometers, connecting the host of the 8th edition of Unite! Dialogue, Wrocław University of Science and Technology, with TU Graz, where the next edition of the event will take place in February. In the cooking club, workshops on making dumplings have already been conducted, with plans to learn additional dishes from various regions of Europe.
The Unite! Hiking & Walking Club and the Unite! Cooking Club, launched during the VIII Dialogue at Wrocław University of Science and Technology, are the beginning of community building within the network. Benedetta Gennaro from TU Darmstadt, who is actively involved in Community 3 (Diversity, Inclusion & Wellbeing) and is a new member of the Unite! Cooking Club, aptly captures the spirit of the initiative:
“I believe that cooking brings people together. You use your hands. You share matters. In the meantime, you chat. It is also an easy way to share cultural traditions.”

Jessica Retzlaff, a staff member from TU Darmstadt, actively involved in Community 4 (Reinforcing academia-business cooperation) and an enthusiastic member of the Hiking & Walking Club, is convinced that achieving this goal together will bring everyone within Unite! closer:
“Yes, I am confident that together we will achieve this goal. Everyone is excited. I am also joining the challenge! I can’t wait to meet again in Graz, where we can discuss how we collected the kilometers.”
