Registration for Unite! Megacities is open

In May and June, students of Wrocław University of Science and Technology will have the opportunity to participate in the intercultural simulation game Unite! Megacities.

Representatives from Université de Grenoble, Wrocław University of Science and Technology, TU Graz, and TU Darmstadt are involved in organizing the event.

The simulation game is a method of experiential learning. The program has been designed to encourage participants to reflect on their own, often unconscious, perceptions of normalcy, and thus to constructively deal with otherness and multilingualism.

Courses and training offers for academic and administrative staff from Unite!

We invite all university staff to explore the rich offer of courses and training organized by the partner universities of the Unite! network.

One of the alliance’s goals is the development of academic and administrative staff through a joint training program.

The offer is available in a dedicated catalog and includes courses and training to complement the existing training offer at Wroclaw University of Science and Technology (Wroclaw Tech). Topics include didactics, soft skills, well-being, and multiculturalism. Trainings are offered in various formats and languages, often free of charge and online. The catalog is regularly updated with new proposals.

Upcoming trainings in April:

April 10 – Beyond words: exploring the use of non-verbal communication when teaching – online, in English, organized by UPC;
April 19 – Mastering Confident Communication for Faculty and Staff – Reducing Vocal Fillers – online, in English, organized by Wroclaw Tech;
April 24 – Intercultural and Virtual Escaperoom – online, in English, organized by TU Darmstadt.

The offer is available in a dedicated catalog and includes courses and training to complement the existing training offer at Wroclaw Tech.

 

Embark with Unite! on the first journey as part of the U!Train! program!

U!Train is the first program of its kind for students from Unite! Thirty students will embark on a unique train journey on September 1st. Registration is open only until April 7th!

The course and learning will begin at the UPC campus in Barcelona, then participants will travel by train to the Grenoble INP-UGA campus. Along the way, they will engage in additional extracurricular activities, and upon arrival, they will continue with integration activities and academic work. Registrations have already begun!

This is the first intensive blended program of its kind for students. The selected group of students will have the opportunity to gain additional knowledge and experience and to discover the charms of international train travel. Everyone will meet on September 1st at the UPC campus in Barcelona. During the journey to Grenoble INP-UGA, they will participate in specially prepared extracurricular activities. On-site, in addition to integration activities, they will have additional academic work. However, the course will start even before the trip, thanks to online sessions that will equip participants with the necessary knowledge and skills needed to participate in the program.

What’s in the course program?

Throughout the program, participants will delve into the topics of green mobility and intercultural competencies through a combination of online learning, lectures, and practical exercises. Led by experienced lecturers and invited speakers, this program offers a unique opportunity to acquire practical skills and interdisciplinary knowledge about sustainable mobility, while also supporting a deeper understanding of different cultures.
Experts will lead discussions on topics such as urban mobility options, sustainable transportation systems and innovations, corporate social responsibility, and cultural diversity. Through engaging workshops and interactive sessions, participants will enrich their knowledge of these key issues. In addition to academic modules, participants will also take part in mapathon sessions, sharing their experiences with train mobility across Europe and gaining practical insights into traveling around Europe.
Participants will also have unique cultural experiences, including guided tours, outdoor activities, and visits to local attractions, from exploring the lively streets of Barcelona to the mountains of Grenoble.

Selected participants will receive financial support in the form of an Erasmus mobility grant and will receive a free Interrail ticket for travel to UPC, Grenoble, and back to their cities.

Training in the Field of Open Science and Research Data Management

The network Unite! and Aalto University invite you to the third cycle of training sessions on open science and research data management. Scientists, students, and staff are welcome to participate.

One of the goals of the Unite! network is to enhance competencies in the field of open science at partner universities and more broadly in society.

Aalto University’s Data Agents are a group of research-oriented university staff who support researchers and students in matters related to research data management. In the last academic year, approximately 2000 people registered for their training cycles.

The spring series includes topics such as:

  • Artificial intelligence and research work,
  • OER policy for higher education,
  • Exploring AI analysis of qualitative data,
  • Privacy in speech technology research,
  • Archiving data collected from people.

Take part in a virtual language course or global competency course with Unite!

Thanks to Wroclaw Tech membership in the Unite! alliance, our students have access to international online courses. Learn languages, enhance your global competencies, and make new friends by participating in online language and cultural courses with students from other universities within the network.

Increasingly, linguistic and cultural diversity, understood as the ability to communicate effectively and collaborate successfully with people from different backgrounds, is seen as a crucial skill for graduates. This is because cultural diversity brings the opportunity to learn new things from others, leading to the creation of new ideas to tackle common challenges.

The aim of this series of virtual learning and language learning tools is to assist students within Unite! in developing the language and cultural competencies necessary to thrive and benefit from shared life in a globalized and culturally diverse world.

Unite! Seed Fund 2024

Until March 15th, you can submit your applications for the Unite! Seed Fund 2024 program. Individuals interested in participating and seeking partners for their projects can join a virtual event on February 16th to present their ideas.

The Unite! Seed Fund aims to maximize the potential of the consortium. It is expected to provide financial support to innovative, co-creative, and collaboration-based ideas from scientists, researchers, and students across the community.

Through the Fund, the alliance supports the exploration and development of attractive and diverse activities and projects, helps secure additional funding for projects, or facilitates collaboration on joint, ambitious, and innovative ideas. Funding is open to all subjects and topics and is directed towards both in-person, hybrid, and purely digital formats.

Are you looking for partners for your project?

One of the main challenges facing applicants seeking support from the fund is finding potential international partners within Unite!.

To address this issue, a virtual matchmaking event is scheduled for February 16th, 2024, from 14:00 to 16:00 CET, during which interested parties can present their projects to find partners or explore projects and applicants seeking partners.

The event will cover all three lines of funding (student activities, teaching and learning, research and doctoral studies). It is open to the entire Unite! community (faculty, teaching units, researchers, students, and student associations).

If you have a project idea you would like to present, please submit a brief summary (100 words) and contact information to seedfund@unite-university.eu no later than February 11th, 2024.

Expand your communication skills and reach out to others with Unite!

The seminar is aimed at students and doctoral candidates who want to gain new tools and resources to improve communication and reach others with their message. The seminar will take place online on November 21st. Participation is free, but registration is required.

The topic of the first seminar for students as part of the Unite! Outreach training is networking and effective communication. The training is aimed at alliance students interested in enhancing their communication skills when working with non-specialized audiences, such as prospective students, public organizations, residents, small and medium-sized enterprises, or public administration.

The session aims to identify and understand the possibilities of working with these audiences and to learn effective dissemination and co-creation techniques. Participants will analyze and evaluate methods proposed by trainers in practical and real-life cases related to the context of social responsibility in engineering and technology. Through these exercises, they will gain tools and knowledge to achieve excellent results in outreach and communication. The session will also include group work and participant presentations.

All Aboard U!Train — But First, We Need Your Ideas!

In September 2024, the U!Train will embark on its inaugural journey, a pioneering project by Unite! aimed at students. A group of 30 students from all partner universities will depart by train from UPC Barcelona to Grenoble INP-UGA. Throughout the journey, they will follow a course program consisting of extracurricular, academic, and integration activities.

Participation in the course is credited (3 ECTS points) and includes involvement in virtual sessions before and after the U!Train journey. The two most popular course themes identified by students in a survey are “ecological travel” and “multiculturalism.”

The course design is still ongoing, and organizers seek the assistance of students from Wrocław University of Science and Technology. You are invited to participate in the U!Train Ideathon, where you can contribute to designing extracurricular activities tailored to individual needs for the U!Train course.

U!Train Ideaton

Ideathon is an event where participants gather virtually to brainstorm, develop, and present ideas or solutions for specific challenges or problems.

Over five consecutive evenings, registered Ideathon participants will work on innovative and creative ideas for the extracurricular segment of the U!Train course. The scope of ideas is broad, ranging from team-building activities to creatively solving problems.

Why Join?

Participating in Ideathon is a fantastic opportunity to expand your international network by collaborating with students from the other eight universities in the Unite! network. Together, you will play a key role in shaping the course, with a particular emphasis on extracurricular aspects.

Ideas from the winning team will be implemented, meaning they will be incorporated into the U!Train course program. Additionally, if you are still a student in 2024 and decide to participate in the course, your involvement in Ideathon will earn you “extra points,” giving you a chance to secure a spot on the train!

Another opportunity for student initiative funding from Unite! Seed Fund!

Only until December 15th, proposals are being collected for funding student initiatives under the Unite! Seed Fund!

This is the second edition of this project, where you can apply for support for a student project in the amount of up to €20,000.

What is the Unite! Seed Fund?

The Unite! Seed Fund helps finance ideas coming from the Unite! community – from students, researchers, and academic staff of the nine universities belonging to the network. This fund offers financial support to promote collaboration between at least two universities.

What can the Seed Fund offer to students?

Qualified projects can be on any subject or topic outside the curriculum that adds value to students and strengthens collaboration between them. Possible ideas include joint projects such as exhibitions, events, trips, competitions, hackathons, courses on Metacampus; in areas such as innovation, sports, career, language, education, communication, information activities, or any other promising idea.

Who can apply?

Undergraduate and postgraduate students (including doctoral students). Applicants must ensure student status until the end of the project.
Student organizations/associations.
Units and centers of student activity (such as sports associations, language centers, etc.).
What can funding be used for?

Eligible costs:

Personnel costs related to organizational tasks (only for staff employed by the university).
Student assistants (defined as possible to be employed by the university).
Travel costs: preferred sustainable travel methods (if possible, use trains instead of planes!).

Other costs:

Such as: material resources, research materials, on-site workshops/hybrid workshops, external services (e.g., moderators, language services).

New initiative – Unite! Seed Fund.

The Unite! Seed Fund is financial support for innovative ideas from academic, research staff, and students from network universities.

Our researchers and students can benefit from another Unite! project – the Seed Fund is aimed at supporting research and work on attractive and diverse activities. It aims to help secure additional funding for the implementation of joint, ambitious, and innovative ideas and concepts within Unite!

Qualification stages for the Seed Fund Initiative

The goal of Unite! is to create an innovative organization focused on collaboration, promoting integration, and sustainable development. Acting in the spirit of ambition related to the practical implementation of excellence in teaching, scientific research, and innovation by creating new opportunities, Unite! invites the entire alliance community (teaching staff, academic units, researchers and research units, as well as students and student organizations) to submit proposals for joint projects to the first round of funding action within the Seed Fund.

Funding opportunities are available for all topics and ideas implemented in various forms, such as those requiring personal involvement of the parties involved, hybrid, and those intended to operate exclusively in the digital domain.

  • The Seed Fund Initiative is a new project of the Unite! network, stimulating and supporting grassroots initiatives of academic teachers, researchers, and students related to joint actions. This initiative can help in creating sustainable academic and student communities throughout the alliance,” says Andreas Winkler, Secretary-General of Unite!
  • The seed nature of this funding creates opportunities to activate and stimulate co-creative activities, such as joint research projects, study offers, intensive blended learning courses, extracurricular or intercultural activities organized by students, long-term cooperation projects in academic and/or research units, such as workshops or symposia,” adds Dr. Anshika Suri, Director of the Seed Fund.

Every year, Unite! will organize one call for applications for the Seed Fund Initiative program to finance activities in the field of teaching and learning as well as scientific research and doctoral studies. In addition, the Unite! Seed Fund will organize a call for proposals for student activities every two years. Funding decisions should be made by June 30, 2023.
