Students from 4S \u2013 Soft Skills Support Squad at Wroc\u0142aw Tech are convinced that technical expertise alone is not enough.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Modern engineers need soft skills, the ability to work in teams, manage\u00a0projects\u00a0and navigate international environments.\u00a0With this in mind, they\u00a0created the project \u201c<strong>Versatile Engineers of the Future<\/strong>\u201d,\u00a0funded by\u00a0the\u00a0<strong>Unite! Seed Fund<\/strong>\u00a0and carried out in cooperation with<strong>\u00a0three universities in the alliance<\/strong>:\u00a0Wroc\u0142aw\u00a0University of Science and Technology,\u00a0Politecnico\u00a0di Torino and\u00a0Universidade\u00a0de Lisboa.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"three-countries-three-camps-one-goal\" tabindex=\"0\">Three countries, three camps, one goal<\/h3>\n<p>The project consisted of\u00a0<strong>three training camps<\/strong>. The first stop was\u00a0<strong>Lisbon\u00a0<\/strong>(27 February \u2013 3 March 2025), where 24 participants were introduced to\u00a0<strong>entrepreneurship, business\u00a0ideation\u00a0and project management<\/strong>. The highlight of the week was a hands-on workshop in which international teams developed start-up concepts addressing\u00a0real social\u00a0challenges.<\/p>\n<p>In\u00a0<strong>Turin\u00a0<\/strong>(18\u201323 March 2025), the\u00a0programme\u00a0took a more technical turn. The host, H2Polito \u2013 a student club\u00a0specialising\u00a0in<strong>\u00a0low-emission vehicles<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 opened its garages to participants, who tested a hydrogen-powered vehicle simulator and attended lectures delivered by engineers working on the\u00a0<strong>mobility solutions of the future<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The final stage took place in\u00a0<strong>Wroc\u0142aw\u00a0<\/strong>(2\u20136 April 2025). Here, students from 4S led workshops on personality types and team roles, helping participants better understand their strengths and how they function in groups. The\u00a0programme\u00a0continued with\u00a0<strong>practical project-management training<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 from scheduling to risk analysis \u2013 and concluded with sessions on leadership and team dynamics, including delegation models and the \u201cFive Dysfunctions of a Team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To round things off,\u00a0<strong>each international group developed a case study proposing a project that could extend the initiative<\/strong>. The concept that gained the most recognition was \u201cReUNITE!\u201d \u2013 a mobile team of students visiting Unite! partner universities and\u00a0supporting\u00a0them in implementing good practices developed during the\u00a0programme.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"collaboration-that-leaves-a-mark\" tabindex=\"0\">Collaboration that leaves a mark<\/h3>\n<p>The project\u00a0showcases\u00a0how technical education is evolving:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"cite-unite border-start border-light-subtle border-5 py-2 ps-3 mb-3 h5\">\n<div class=\"mb-1\">\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s\u00a0not enough to be good with numbers; you also need to know how to work well with others.\u00a0I think we\u00a0proved that, with encouragement and support from\u00a0Unite!,\u00a0students can build their own learning space that\u00a0responds both to market needs and to our own ambitions&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<footer class=\"text-secondary d-flex align-items-center\">\u2013Marta\u00a0Jaworska, trainer at 4S \u2013 Soft Skills Support Squad and the project leader.<\/footer>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>The next call for\u00a0the Unite!\u00a0Seed\u00a0Fund will be announced in a few weeks, with applications open until mid-March.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>How should we educate engineers who are ready for the challenges of today\u2019s world?
