Graduate School of Speech, Language, and AI Technologies has successfully been established by eight Unite! Partners, setting up a pipeline from a Joint Master\u2019s programme to a PhD programme. Now, the next funding phase will focus on PhD-level education, uniting all nine partner universities.<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"parent-fieldname-text\" class=\"\">\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In October 2023, the\u00a0<strong>Unite! Graduate School of Speech, Language, and AI Technologies<\/strong>\u00a0secured initial funding through the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unite-university.eu\/about-us\/unite_seed_fund\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-linktype=\"external\" data-val=\"https:\/\/www.unite-university.eu\/about-us\/unite_seed_fund\">Unite! Seed Fund<\/a>, marking a significant milestone as both a Developing Project for Teaching &amp; Learning and an Exploring Project for Research &amp; PhD Rooted in cutting-edge Speech and Language Technologies like Alexa, Siri, ChatGPT, DeepL, and Translation Earbuds, the school pioneered an innovative educational framework seamlessly integrating Master&#8217;s and PhD programs from the participating partner universities.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Now, moving into its second phase within the Unite! Seed Fund,\u00a0<strong>the project expands its scope to include all nine partner universities<\/strong>. The primary focus shifts towards the development and enhancement of the PhD-programme, alongside the establishment of a robust Doctoral Network.\u00a0<strong>This phase aims to consolidate and strengthen the school&#8217;s leadership in advancing research and education at the intersection of Speech, Language, and AI Technologies within the Unite! alliance.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span class=\"TextRun SCXW114633869 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-GB\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW114633869 BCX0\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW114633869 BCX0\">W<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW114633869 BCX0\">e are excited to enhance our focus on\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW114633869 BCX0\">PhD<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW114633869 BCX0\">-level education across all nine partner universities. Alliance have already jump-started the Graduate School in the 1st round of Seed Funding and established the Unite! Speech Language and AI online showcase as the virtual\u00a0<strong>hub for collaboration by presenting more than 20 relevant Master\u2019s programmes and a list of 100 Master-level-courses from the partner universities.<\/strong><\/span><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">And there are more achievements from the first funding phase, providing a strong basis for all further developments:<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">All eight partner universities have engaged in developing a\u00a0<strong>joint Master&#8217;s curriculum<\/strong>.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">An upcoming\u00a0<strong>summer school<\/strong>, a blended intensive programme, will bring together Master&#8217;s and PhD students from all partner universities in a co-creation setting to prepare for the seamless transition from joint Master\u2019s studies to joint PhD studies.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><strong>Over 150 PhD theses are currently supervised by more than 50 faculty members<\/strong>. A platform providing access to the topics, as well as student and advisor websites, has been created within the online showcase. Formal co-tutelle agreements are being considered for new thesis projects.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><br \/>\nObjectives of the second funding phase<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In its second phase, the project aims to build on these accomplishments with a focus on the development and enhancement of the Ph.D. programme and the establishment of a Doctoral Network.
