{"id":1901,"date":"2024-09-18T07:33:22","date_gmt":"2024-09-18T07:33:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/unite.pwr.edu.pl\/oferty\/europejska-noc-naukowcow-etyka-i-wiarygodnosc-w-nauce-i-technologii\/"},"modified":"2024-09-18T08:31:04","modified_gmt":"2024-09-18T08:31:04","slug":"european-researchers-night-ethics-and-credibility-in-science-and-technology","status":"publish","type":"oferty","link":"https:\/\/unite.pwr.edu.pl\/en\/oferty\/european-researchers-night-ethics-and-credibility-in-science-and-technology\/","title":{"rendered":"European Researchers\u2019 Night: Ethics and credibility in science and technology"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>On Friday 27 September, all Unite! students are invited to participate in a dialogue with Unite! researchers about ethics and credibility in science and technology during this years European Researchers&#8217; Night.<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The European Researchers&#8217; Night is a Europe-wide public event, which displays the diversity of science and its impact on citizens&#8217; daily lives in fun, inspiring ways and aims to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>bring research and researchers closer to the public<\/li>\n<li>promote excellent research projects across Europe and beyond<\/li>\n<li>increase the interest of young people in science and research careers<\/li>\n<li>showcase the impact of researchers\u2019 work on people\u2019s daily lives<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1896 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/unite.pwr.edu.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/ERN-Unite.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"555\" height=\"368\" srcset=\"https:\/\/unite.pwr.edu.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/ERN-Unite.png 555w, https:\/\/unite.pwr.edu.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/ERN-Unite-300x199.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 555px) 100vw, 555px\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>As misinformation, deepfakes, and half-truths spread, it\u2019s getting harder to tell what\u2019s real from what\u2019s fake. This causes people to lose trust in news and information, which weakens democracy by creating confusion and doubt about what to believe. Artificial intelligence (AI) plays a key role in this issue\u2014it can spread fake information and help fight against it. That\u2019s why it\u2019s important to promote media literacy and teach people how to think critically, so they can deal with real and manipulated information<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><span style=\"color: #808080;\">-Prof. Cecilio Angulo Bah\u00f3n, Universitat Polit\u00e8cnica de Catalunya<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The event primarily targets High School pupils (15-18 years) and future students in the nine Unite! cities and regions. However, anyone interested is welcome to join.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>This event is an excellent opportunity for students to get curious, ask questions, and engage with science. This year, the focus is on AI. The impact and potential of AI is undeniable, but there are still a lot of questions we must answer. While we might not have all the answers, we can always ask ChatGPT! \ud83d\ude00<br \/>\nDespite the complexity of AI, we mustn\u2019t shy away from it, but embrace the challenge and the change, explore its potential, and tackle tough questions. After all, curiosity, learning, and critical thinking are how we move forward in science.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><span style=\"color: #808080;\">&#8211; Moderator Milica Zivanic, SURE! Representative from UPC<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This year, the event will take place on <strong>Friday 27 September<\/strong> in 25 countries. The Unite! webinar from <strong>10:00 AM \u2013 12:00 (noon) CET, online via zoom,<\/strong> will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Briefly present the European University Alliance \u201cUnite!\u201d and its offer for prospective students.<\/li>\n<li>Show that the researcher\u2019s job is interesting, exciting, amazing and provides an opportunity to work with colleagues from all around the world.<\/li>\n<li>Explain some elements and reflections on ethics and credibility in science and technology, which are crucial for the advancement of knowledge, the trustworthiness of research, and the responsible application of scientific discoveries.
